We're collecting some of these resources to support open and fact-based conversations about the pandemic and community responses. AAA COVID-19 Resources From Our Sponsors What is Anthropology? Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences. A central concern of anthropologists is the application of knowledge to the solution of human problems. Historically, anthropologists in the United States have been trained in one of four areas: sociocultural anthropology, biological/physical anthropology, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology. Anthropologists often integrate the perspectives of several of these areas into their research, teaching, and professional lives. Each summer, the offers two internship opportunities funded by member donations. Internships are six weeks in length and usually extend from early July through mid-August. Internships are unpaid, however they are provided housing and a meal/travel stipend. Interns will spend approximately 40 percent of their time working onsite at the AAA offices in Arlington, VA, and the other 60 percent of their time working on-site at one of two locations: The Naval Historic & Heritage Command or The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. -- Learn More A New Season at AAA Based on feedback from active and past members, we have taken the steps to make AAA membership more accessible by enhancing our existing "ability to pay" model with more affordable dues, retiree discounts, and discounts for multi-year renewals.
